Presentation of the Siberian climate in Novosibirsk

The climate in southern Siberia and in Novosibirsk is harshly continental. Siberia is famous for its severe winters, but it does not snow all year round in Novosibirsk!

Winter (mid-November – March)

Winters are cold and snowy. The average temperature is between -18°C and -20°C, with peaks possible to -30°C during January/February (no longer than a few days). The first snow usually starts falling around mid-November, and the snow remains till March or early April.
It is the time to put on skates and enjoy the numerous skating-rinks of the city. One can also go snowboarding at the banks of the Ob River or try the cross-country ski resorts in the parks and suburbs of Novosibirsk.
The Siberian cold being "a dry cold", a sunny day at -20°C here is very pleasant if you are well covered.

Spring (April – June)

The sun warms up the city step by step – from the melting of snow (end of March – beginning of April) to summer heat. The speed of springtide is impressive: in less than one week the parks become green and start blooming. Days lengthen till June – the month of the shortest nights, which only last for a few hours (a phenomenon similar to the “white nights”).

Summer (July – August)

The months of July and August are usually hot and very sunny. In the past new years, as a result of the global warming, the temperature often raises up to 30 and 35°C.
There are equipped beaches along the banks of the Ob River and around the artificial lake "Obskoe more" (the Ob Sea, near Academgorodok).
Heavy scattered showers are observed at the end of August until the beginning of September.

Autumn (September – mid-November)

These months are characterized by the gradually returning cold and serve as a transition period from heavy rain at the end of August to the beginning of winter in mid-November. Around the end of September ("babie leto" - Indian summer), the leaves of the trees change their color to all tints of red and yellow.
